With the Motability Scheme and Anthony Betts Motor Group, getting a new vehicle is easier and more affordable than ever before.

How Motability works

The Motability is a Not-For-Profit Organisation Scheme that created in 1978 to help those with a disability throughout the UK gain easier access to a powered wheelchair, mobility scooter or motor vehicle.

If you receive state aid in the form of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, you are eligible for the Motability Scheme. You can waive part – or all – of your allowance in exchange for your new Suzuki.

As well as a new car every 3 years you will get insurance, road tax, servicing, tyres and breakdown cover for the 3 year period, quite simply all you will have to do is buy your fuel! In many cases, you will find that the waiving of your benefit is sufficient to meet the costs of your new vehicle. For some higher-spec models, however, a non-refundable advance payment may be required.

Am I Eligible For Motability?

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, and are to receive the benefit for at least 12 more months, you are allowed to use this benefit to pay the monthly cost of your new car. The scheme is not means tested, and is eligible to anyone with a disability, regardless of financial circumstances.

It should be noted, however, that only the Mobility Component (not the Care Component) of the Disability Living Allowance can be used to pay for your Motability vehicle. Also, not all models are available without an advance payment. If your disability means that you require a vehicle for which you need an advance payment, however, do not worry; means-tested grants are available to allow you to meet the costs attached.

Already Own a Car?

If you’re a Motability customer in possession of a privately owned car, you will still be able to benefit from the Motability Scheme. Anthony Betts Motor Group will buy your car from you. This will enable you to either keep the money raised or use it to pay any necessary advance payment on your Motability car. Most customers find this the most convenient option, and means that you can switch from using your old car to your new one the same day.

Alternatively you could sell your vehicle privately, you may get you a better price, however, you will have to arrange the sale yourself and there may be a short waiting period where you are without a car.
