Introduction to Suzuki AllGrip

Take control of the road with ALLGRIP, Suzuki’s four wheel drive technology. With over 50 years of experience, Suzuki have redefined their four wheel drive technology under the ALLGRIP name. ALLGRIP gives you the confidence you need to adventure, be more active and have some freedom - without compromise.

The relative lightweight system means there are minimal changes to fuel economy or engine emissions, providing more driving enjoyment and peace of mind even in adverse road surface conditions - all thanks to added traction and go-anywhere benefits of four wheel drive.

Suzuki's Four Wheel Drive Technology consists of 3 different ALLGRIP systems - AUTO, SELECT and PRO.

You can watch the adjacent video and read about the 3 different systems below.

ALLGRIP AUTO

ALLGRIP AUTO gives the driver peace of mind in everyday driving, especially when driving on slippery roads or snowy surfaces.

With the viscous coupling four-wheel drive system, torque is automatically distributed to the rear wheels, when it detects the front wheel losing grip of the road.

GRIP CONTROL

The Grip Control* function ensures a smooth start on roads that are slippery with snow or mud. It quickly applies the brake to any slipping wheels while focusing drive power on the wheels that have grip. This improves escape performance by using traction control to limit the loss of engine torque.

ALLGRIP AUTO is available on Ignis and Swift.

Grip Control activates on slippery surfaces at speeds of less than 18mph

ALLGRIP SELECT

ALLGRIP SELECT provides the inherent values "Fun to drive", "Peace of mind" and "High fuel-efficiency" by allowing the driver to choose from four driving modes (AUTO, SPORT, SNOW, and LOCK).

The electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with selectable driving mode uses a simple push-and-turn dial so the driver can experience different driving styles depending on the road surfaces or conditions.

  • In AUTO mode, the vehicle prioritises fuel economy and uses two wheel drive by default, but if front wheel slippage is detected, the system switches to four wheel drive for greater stability.
  • In SPORT mode, the vehicle is optimised for sporty driving, such as on winding roads. Traction control intervention is weakened so that acceleration response is improved, and makes turning corners easier.
  • In SNOW mode, stability is maximised through traction control intervention and a permanent 50/50 torque split between the front and rear wheels. This makes driving through snow, unpaved or other slippery surfaces easier.
  • In LOCK mode, torque is distributed evenly throughout all four wheels when encountering tough surfaces. The traction control system applies braking to wheels that are spinning without traction and prioritises torque allocation to tyres that are gripping.

ALLGRIP SELECT is available on Vitara and S-Cross

ALLGRIP PRO

The Jimny adapts to any situation with a part time 4WD system with low range transfer gear. When the going gets tough, shift the lever to the 4L mode (4WD- low gear) for maximum torque and better traction on uneven terrain.
